Among the Virštanj vineyards at the Pri Škorcu Farm
At the Pri Škorcu farm, the owner Janez and his son Jože will welcome you with an aperitif and homemade pork crackling bread (pršjača), baked by housewife Julijana. The welcome will be accompanied by music played on the accordion by Jože's younger brother, David. The hosts will take you on a short walk through the vineyards that surround their farm. Jože, who has taken over the running of the farm and is a qualified farm engineer specialising in viticulture, will present the cultivation of the grape vines and types, planted across four hectares. Janez will present the family's tradition, who, for several generations, has been involved in viticulture. You will also find out where the name 'Pri Škorcu' originates. On the way to the small chapel, which lies directly above the vineyard at the farm, the views extend from Buče, Virštanj, Bistrica ob Sotli, all the way to Croatia. After the walk you can visit one of the most modern wine cellars in the region. Jože and Janez will prepare a guided wine tasting session, for which they have received numerous awards. For lunch you will be served homemade beef soup, roast chicken and pork from the bread oven, as well as turkey fillet, baked potatoes, homemade cheese štruklji (dumplings) – which for years have been a tradition at their table –, wine sauce and home-grown salad. For dessert you can enjoy walnut potica cake and coffee. The price of this experience with a tasting of three or four types of wine and lunch is 16 euros per person. If you have less time available, you can choose to just visit the wine cellar and taste seven types of wine, which will be accompanied by a plate of home-produced cold cuts, and bread from the bread oven, for the price of 7 euros per person. It is also possible to arrange other experiences and dishes (stews) therefore the prices above are only for information and can be adjusted to accommodate your wishes and the extent of your order.
