Culinary experiences

Two regional parks in one weekend

You will visit two regional parks – the Logarska dolina and Robanov kot, where farming and forestry still take place in harmony with nature. The close connection between people and nature over the centuries is evident in these protected areas, which fall under the Natura 2000 network, and the wonderful landscape.

The farm lies on the banks of the Savinja river at the entrance to the Logar Valley. You will be treated to seasonal, home-made food and local specialities. The pride of the farm is the savinjski želodec cured meat, a culinary speciality with protected geographical indication. The food is local and seasonal. Thus, dandelion and wild garlic will feature in spring, fresh garden vegetables, meats and trout in summer. Mushroom soup and mushroom žlikrofi (stuffed pasta) are made from the mushrooms that grow in the forests behind the house in summer and autumn and for vegetarians, there are home-made cheese and buckwheat štruklji (dumplings) and žganci (crumbly polenta).

The farm is home to cows, horses, goats and chickens. And, of course, a dog and cats.

Day 1

You arrive at the farm in the late afternoon. Dinner is followed by a tour of the farm and presentation of the programme.

Day 2

Breakfast is self-service – coffee and herbal tea, savinjski želodec, local cheese and cottage cheese from neighbouring farms, home-made sour milk, bread, honey and jams.

After breakfast, you drive to Robanov kot. Park your car at the entrance to the valley, which was created millennia ago by a glacier, and walk through the valley’s pristine nature and past mountainsides and grazing livestock. You will reach the end of the valley after about an hour and arrive at an Alpine dairy farm, where you can try the sour milk, žganci and cheese.

After you get back, you will be shown how to make arrows and, if there will be time, you can try your hand at archery. Children can be taken to the barn to help feed the animals and collect the eggs.

For dinner, you will be served local dishes and given some information about them.

Day 3

After breakfast, you will go on a tour of the Logar Valley. It is recommended that you use one of the marked footpaths and take a meal at one of the Alpine dairy farms.

On your way back, you can stop at Center Rinka in Solčava, which has a multimedia exhibition on the Solčava region and a gallery. You shall also be able to buy local souvenirs.
